LEVEL 4 DIPLOMA IN SPECTATOR SAFETY (2021)

Launched on February 1st 2021, The new Level 4 Diploma in Spectator Safety has been designed to provide essential skills, knowledge and understanding for those people wishing to be assessed as competent in the role of a sports ground safety officer.

Throughout this qualification, you will be expected to show ability in planning for and ensuring the safety of people at an event. Furthermore, you will also need to demonstrate the ability to manage resources and develop and implement policies.

THE COURSE

The Level 4  Diploma in Spectator Safety provides learners with the knowledge and experience needed to work in sports grounds, music venues, festivals and any other event requiring spectator safety. During the course, you will learn a wealth of information that will take your skillset within the crowd safety industry to the next level.

This qualification consists of 11 units:-

  • Eight mandatory units
  • Three optional units.

A minimum of 90 credits must be achieved via the completion of mandatory and optional units.

COURSE UNITS

MANDATORY UNITS

As part of the work required to achieve the Level 4 Diploma in Spectator Safety , you must complete the following eight

  • Plan for the Safety of People at Spectator Events
  • Manage the Safety and Security of People at Spectator Events
  • Develop, Implement and Review Policies and Procedures for Safety and Security at Spectator Events
  • Provide information for Action and Decision making at Events
  • Manage Resources for Safety and Security at Events
  • Manage Risks in Crowded Places
  • Manage the initial response to significant or major incidents and plan for resilience
  • Work with others to improve customer service

Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Spectator Safety Management
OPTIONAL UNITS

The remaining credits must be achieved via completion of three optional units listed below:

  • Monitor and solve customer service problems
  • Recruit, select and retain people
  • Support individuals learning and development
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for innovation and improvement
  • Allocate and Monitor the Progress and Quality of Your Work in Your Area of Responsibility
  • Develop your knowledge, skills and competence
  • Manage projects
  • Develop and sustain productive working relationships with stakeholders

The Total Qualification Time (TQT) for this qualification is estimated between 900 -1140 hours. The Guided Learning Hours (GLH) assigned are between 391-595.

COURSE SPECIFICATION

This qualification is designed for Stadium Managers and Safety Officers.

It meets the requirements laid out in the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (known as the Green Guide).  

The course covers a number of modules including how to develop productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, providing information to support decision-making and planning for the safety of people attending a spectator event. You will also learn to assist the organisation in the development and implementation of policies, provide learning opportunities for colleagues and manage your own resources and professional development.
